EFLA is the professional organisation for landscape architecture in the Single European Market, which is focussed on the European Union. Membership of EFLA is open to the national professional associations of the landscape architects of the European Union, the European Economic Area, Switzerland and also the EU applicant countries of Central Europe. Current membership is nearly all the European Union countries Norway and Switzerland.

The Landscape Character Network (LCN), formerly the Countryside Character Network (CCN), is an informal network, open to anyone who has an interest in Landscape Character Assessment (LCA) and its applications. Landscape Character Assessment is an important tool for enhancing local distinctiveness and promoting sustainable development.

Co-ordinated from Alterra, Wageningen, this project checks the usefulness of landscape character assessment to link existing regional/national scale approaches with a large scale European view. This is to support future policy implementation of European landscape conservation measures.
